THERAPIES & PRACTICES TO OVERCOME EATING DISORDERS

Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a highly effective therapy for mood disorders as it brings awareness to negative thought patterns and behaviors that keep us stuck in anxiety or depression. It helps clients create healthier mindsets, and offers practical strategies to overcome day-to-day challenges.

Emotion Focused
Therapy (EFT)
This highly researched therapy can support profound change by helping clients develop better emotional regulation and self-care practices. EFT can bring to light suppressed emotions, and empower the client to accept and transform these negative emotions into positive insights and behaviors.
Radically Open
Dialectical Behavior
Therapy (RO DBT)
RO DBT is a new treatment model based on 20 years of research. It addresses emotional over-control, which leads to inhibited expression; hyper-detail focused and overly cautious behavior. This has been linked to anxiety, depression, OCD, etc. RO DBT helps clients relax their excessive need for control, and enjoy more openness, flexibility, and social connectedness.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a great complementary practice when treating mood disorders. Those grappling with anxiety or depression are often overwhelmed with their own negative thoughts. Mindfulness can help us detach from these thoughts, feel calmer and clearer, and choose more positive responses and behaviors.

SOME DEPRESSION TYPES I OFTEN TREAT

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), sometimes known as clinical depression, is characterized by a persistent feeling of sadness, hopelessness, low-energy, and loss of interest. It is often accompanied by weight loss or gain and sometimes physical pain. Those affected by MDD often have disordered sleep habits, either being unable to sleep or spending an excessive amount of time sleeping. Major Depressive Disorder can be debilitating and sometimes life-threatening but it can be successfully treated if you seek help. If you are experiencing the symptoms of this condition I urge you to reach out to me.
Persistent Depressive Disorder also called dysthymia, is a long-term form of depression which can last for years. Symptoms may lessen at times only to intensify later. While the feelings of sadness and hopelessness associated with dysthymia may seem to almost disappear for brief periods of time, the persistence with which they return can severely affect a person’s life over time.
Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD, is a type of depression that sets in with the changing of the seasons and is associated with fewer daylight hours. Hopelessness, sadness, fatigue, excessive sleep, food cravings, weight fluctuations, and problems with relationships are common symptoms of SAD. Symptoms may start off mild at the beginning of the low-light season and build over the next few months. If you experience SAD on a yearly basis, I can help you to employ effective methods to ease symptoms so that you can have a lighter happier winter.

Postpartum Depression, sometimes dismissed as “the baby blues”, this condition can be a serious form of depression that sets in during the weeks or months following childbirth and may cause a new mother to feel sad, irritable, hopeless, or that she has no desire to care for and can’t bond with her new baby. These feelings can be exasperated by strong feelings of guilt. New mothers suffering from PPD may be comforted to know that this condition is very common, affecting as many as 1 in 7 new mothers and that it can be effectively treated.
